Angus Trudeau
Angus Trudeau (1908-1984) was an Anishinaabe self-taught artist from Manitoulin Island, renowned for his paintings of ferryboats, freighters, logging camps, and village life around Lake Huron. A sailor and cook aboard commercial ships, Trudeau painted in his spare time, drawing inspiration from memory, postcards, and photographs. His works often incorporated mixed media and collage. Trudeau held solo exhibitions in 1976, 1978, and 1980. A 1986 exhibition, Angus Trudeau's Manitoulin, curated by Ian Thom for the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, toured nationwide. His paintings are held in the collections of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, McMichael Canadian Art Collection, and Art Gallery of Windsor.
